Principal Veterinarian/Owner
David Thomson BVSc MAICD MAMI
David graduated from the University of Queensland in December 2000 and was employed by Beenleigh Veterinary Hospital in the same month where he was exposed to a diverse practice with a focus on small animals and horses. His mentors ensured he carried out many surgical procedures. Cattle work, while undertaken, was far less common.
David spent time in Killarney as a Veterinary student and was offered the chance to purchase the business in 2001. It was somewhat unprecedented for such a recently graduated veterinarian to operate his own practice but David rose to the challenge.
Through caring, hard work, attention to detail and always acting professionally, David has become a respected member of the community and the practice has grown 4 fold. In addition to operating a comprehensive and reputable practice, 2007 saw David being invited to become a Director of The Warwick Credit Union, a role he continues to fulfill. He has recently stepped down as Chairman of the board of the Killarney Memorial Aged Care facility and has added his skills to other community organisations since 2002.
Outside of work, David continues to feed his ever growing horse population in the hope of one day having the time to do something with them. He also enjoys belting out a tune on the piano.

OIC – Journalist – Media officer – Cat about town
Max, Large teeth – boundless energy – quick wit - sneaky
Max entered employment in 2007 after straying in. His black tiger stripes and playful nature encouraged the staff to try to re-home him but after some weeks Max had wound his way into the hearts of the staff and they decided he could stay to deter rodents. He quickly made himself at home visiting various main street shops every day and is often seen on the footpath of a morning waiting to greet his many admirers and fans as they go by.
To earn his keep he keeps the mice at bay and writes a column in our newsletter. He has his own email address at max@killarneyvet.com.au and is the first point of contact for the clinic in the electronic media. This has spread his fame and he often gets emails as well as cards and gifts at Christmas.
A vital member of the team – Max is often seen contemplating his next game, bout of mischief making or resting on his office chair in reception.

Veterinary Nurse - Groomer
Sarah, Studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
Sarah commenced employment in August 2006. She acquired her skills in grooming, love of horses and animals in general while growing up and working in the UK. Sarah immigrated to Australia where she met and married Danny before they returned to the UK where son, Blaze, was born. Cold weather and tough economic conditions saw them return to Australia after 10 years.
A confessed animal nut, Sarah, Danny and Blaze provide a home for horses, sheep, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens and an aviary of native birds. With an ability to turn the scruffiest of dogs into a “prima donna”, Sarah is really appreciated by many happy clients. Her zany sense of humor, happy nature and love of red wine is appreciated by her work mates and many friends.

Veterinary Nurse
Reba, Studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
Starting as a school trainee in 2006, Reba was offered fulltime employment in January 2008 after completing her high school years. She has developed into a skilled and very competent nurse. With an outgoing personality and a love of country life, Reba has toned down her motor cycle riding recently – while waiting a new bike – but does enjoy taking her 4x4 for long runs in the country.
Her favorite pet is the family’s accident prone Labrador, “Charlie”, who seems to need a visit to the surgery every few weeks for the bumps, bruises, stings and the scrapes he accumulates as he wanders around the home property. Already spoiled, Charlie should be well cared for when Reba completes her studies in early 2012.

Her practical approach and extensive knowledge is often called upon by colleagues and clients alike.
While not missing the bitter cold of the Canadian winter, her summers here are usually enhanced by lots of Canadian visitors enjoying an Australian escape. Like Sarah, Leanne appreciates red wine, the beach, good company and good friends.
